HSK Goes Green

A total of 745,000 kg of CO₂ has been saved through various packaging optimizations – this corresponds to about 3,000 m³ of Styrofoam or 80 truckloads. These optimizations included, for example, the reduction or elimination of Styrofoam or foil, as well as the switch from Styrofoam filling material to honeycomb cardboard and filling material made from leftover cardboard. We are continuously working to make all our products more sustainably packaged.

Here are two examples:

Since October 2023, the transport protection of the shower cabin at one production line has consisted entirely of cardboard. With this change from Styrofoam blocks to honeycomb cardboard and the new packaging concept, we are replacing about 320,000 Styrofoam parts per year with sustainable alternatives. Roughly, this is 1,200 m³ or approximately 30 trucks per year.

Since June 2024, we have been packaging all our shower trays completely without Styrofoam. With this change, we can save 195,000 Styrofoam parts annually, which corresponds to a volume of 1,200 m³ or 171,021 kg of CO₂ – a significant contribution to a clean future.

Our goal is to use the grip bottles for easier carrying of the shower cabin boxes more frequently. And our customers are helping us with this. Our carrier provides them with a box in which they can collect the grip bottles. As soon as the collection box is full, our customers inform our carrier via email. On the next delivery of HSK products, it will be taken away in a climate-neutral manner for recycling, and the customer will receive a new collection box.

The result: In the ongoing year 2024, we have impressively received 101,000 grip bottles from our customers. A large amount of plastic has been saved through the reuse of the transport handles.

 

Since the end of 2022, the photovoltaic system on the roof of our factory building at the Olsberg location has been running. A total of 1,034 PV modules have been installed on a special flat roof system.
 

• 2022: 4,656 kWh  ≙  1,704 kg CO₂ (only November and December)
• 2023: 311,373 kWh  ≙  113,963 kg CO₂
• 2024: 310,451 kWh  ≙  113,625 kg CO₂ (January to November)

The electric energy generated by the system is used directly on-site or fed into the power grid. This helps us reduce energy costs and further decrease our ecological footprint by producing in a more resource-efficient and sustainable way – for a climate-friendly, clean energy supply and a greener world.

The eco-friendly material

• The RenoDeco wall covering system is robust, easy to maintain, and durable, supporting sustainable building and renovation.
• RenoDeco consists of 98% recycled materials.
• After use, i.e., at the end of the product's life cycle, RenoDeco can also be recycled by up to 96%.
• All used coatings are compliant with REACH and RoHS regulations and no heavy metals are used for their pigmentation.
• To avoid water waste, the water used in the painting process is 100% treated and reused.

We package sustainably

• Packaging free of Styrofoam with corner protection made of cardboard.
• Use of paper tape.
• Corner protectors made of 100% plastic recyclate and profile packaging made of up to 85% recycled PCR film.
• Reduction of packaging material and avoidance of unnecessary transport routes by bundling different items within an order.

HSK continuously works on optimizing manufacturing processes for an improved CO₂ balance.

The touchless washbasin faucet AquaXPro with infrared sensor allows for water savings of up to 50% during hand washing.

Our faucets, such as hand and overhead showers, also have flow restrictors that can reduce water consumption by up to 60%.

Many of our designer radiators can be expanded with heating rods, making heating more efficient:

The first step into the morning-cooled bathroom is a hurdle for many people. To ensure a comfortably warm bath can be found in the morning, the heating rod 4 with remote control is, for example, the perfect solution. It is a popular electrical addition to traditional central heating and can be retrofitted in combination with a designer radiator. The slim heating rod provides quick and targeted warmth in the room and promises easy operation. After the technician has securely screwed the heating rod 4 into the designer radiator, it is controlled via the remote control.

Energy efficiency and design innovatively combined: Our infrared heater Retango is not only a visual enhancement – it also scores with efficient, quick, and evenly distributed heating warmth. Thus, the Retango represents a stylish yet cost-effective heating alternative for the bathroom. 

As a practical extension of the Retango, usage times and temperatures can be easily and individually programmed using the optional remote control – making the heating operation even more efficient, targeted, and energy-saving. The remote control also meets the Ecodesign Directive, which encompasses the entire lifecycle of a product from production to disposal.

A glass with TwinSeal is particularly environmentally friendly due to reduced use of cleaning agents:

With the glass sealing TwinSeal, a maximum level of resistance against limescale and dirt, as well as impressive water-repellent properties, are combined. This combination creates a double protective layer on the inside of the glass, ensuring ultra-clear visibility and transparency. 

Wiping or drying the shower enclosure after each showering session is no longer necessary.
